Agatha Nalubwama donates Wheelchairs and Relief Items to People with Disabilities (PWDs) in Busana Subcounty Kayunga District
As part of her efforts to organize and empower the people of Kayunga District, on 26th January 2024, Ms Agatha Nalubwama donated items to People with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kayunga District such as; Wheelchairs, foodstuffs,Scholastick materials,sanitaries,among others and above all she delivered a strong message for the salvation of the souls of the people of Kayunga.
The event dumbed “Disability is Not Inability Give Back Charity” was organized by the Agatha Nalubwama Ministries,SOFOs an Ngo, Mukisa Maize Millers Ltd,Prosperity Coffee, and MI Media Empire Limited. The ceremony was held in Busana sub county in Kayunga District with the Theme “Disability is not Inability’.
The ceremony was graced by the Executive Director of the National Union of People With Disabilities (NUDIPU).
Over 200 people from different parishes and villages attended with over 80 people with Disabilities in attendance. The district has many PWDs but helpless and haven’t been organized and empowered to benefit from the available Government programs.
Iam dedicated to organize and support the PWDs in Kayunga to be able to benefit from Government programs-Hon Agatha Nalubwama stated. Iam reaching out to the most disadvantaged people in kayunga district as a person and iam calling upon all the wellwishers to join/support the campaign to organize, empower and boost the productivity of the Persons with Disabilities in Kayunga- Agatha stated further.
Agatha Nalubwama Ministries is a field based ministry dedicated to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and organizing communities for social-economic development. The Ministry is known for organizing, training, and empowering people in their communities in Kayunga District.
Agatha Nalubwama vividly spoke on the available Government programs and policies designed to support the PWDs in Uganda. She thanked H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his commitment to boosting the productivity of the Persons with Disabilities in Uganda.
It’s important to note that 12.4 per cent of the Ugandan population lives with some form of disability while approximately 4.5 million Ugandans are persons with disability (PWDs). This calls for a holistic approach to help support the PWDS-Agatha pointed out.
In December 2022, the NRM Government launched the Revised National Policy on Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) 2022. The launch was conducted during the celebrations of the International PWD day under the theme “Leadership and Mindset Change, a Tool for Inclusive Development” Presided over by H.E Jessica Alupo The Vice President of Uganda.
The National Council for Persons with Disabilities is a government body established by an Act of Parliament; the Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003 and set up in November 2004. The Council representation is drawn from key government Ministries and organizations of/for persons with disabilities. I therefore call upon the council to identify pro-active and dedicated field based organizations like Agatha Nalubwama Ministries for purposes of establishing partnerships to organize and empower People with Disabilities in Communities across the country-Agatha stated.
She thanked the Government of Uganda for providing health services, community based rehabilitation, vocational training, Universal Primary Education as key measures to empower PWDs.
