European Union awarded as the Best International Development Institution in Uganda
The European Union Delegation to Uganda was recognized by Public Opinions with the Responsible Investment Global Certification Award as the Best International Development Institution in Uganda in appreciation of its contribution towards attainment of Uganda Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
The European Union Delegation in Uganda is led by a true friend of Uganda known as Jan Sadek.He is not just an ambassador but a great friend of the people of Uganda. He has passion for sustainable peace and development in Uganda and boosting Uganda’s Exports to European Union economic bloc-Evelyn Anite Minister of State for Investment told Public Opinions. The EU market offers great opportunities for Ugandan entrepreneurs. Uganda has lots of trade advantages with Europe and we need to build and capitalize, focusing on value addition and standards for quality exports-Evelyn Anite stated.
Privatization and Investment Minister Evelyn Anite told Public Opinions that the EU is one of the leading development partners for Uganda, not only contributing to Uganda’s development objectives through official development assistance but also private sector investments and trade.
Iam happy with the EU for working towards creating jobs in Uganda-President Museveni stated in Rwakitura in Kiruhura District.
European Union cooperation with Uganda aims to respond to the country’s most pressing needs, which include fostering sustainable development, improving national and regional transport connections and strengthening the agricultural sector to improve ordinary people’s livelihoods. Under the Leadership of European Union Ambassador to Uganda H.E Jan Sadek, EU has improved its visibility as well as vigorously engaging the private sector. Agatha Nalubwama who is set to organize Kayunga Trade and Development Conference challenged European Union to engage Business community in rural areas as a way of Promoting Consumer Rights, Quality Products, Business development, Human Rights,etc. What is lacking now is for EU to reach out and engage with people in communities through well-established community based organizations and participate in training and mentorship as well as supporting development programs and promotion of human rights- Agatha stated further. Otherwise I congratulate the European Union upon receiving the Responsible Investment Global Certification Award from Public Opinions as the best International Development Organization in Uganda. It was long overdue-Nalubwama Agatha pointed out.
The European Union is an important sector in the development of the health sector in Uganda. EU is our reliable partner-Dr Diana Atwine Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health told Public Opinions as she officially signed the EU Letter for cooperation.
The European Union (EU) has cooperated with Uganda to foster sustainable development, improve national and regional transport connections, and strengthen the agricultural sector. Since 2017, the EU has supported humanitarian action in Uganda with more than €309 million. For 2024, the EU has allocated €27.5 million for humanitarian aid. Last year, in addition to the initial allocation of €30.5million,the EU mobilized almost €5 million more to accelerate local action in humanitarian and health crises and address food insecurity.EU humanitarian funds help address the needs of over 1.5 million refugees,asylum seekers, and host communities as well as the needs of people exposed to natural hazards.
PROMOTING DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS AND GOOD GOVERNANCE: The European Delegation to Uganda supports the country’s efforts to proceed with electoral reforms, defend human rights, promote democratic governance and fight corruption. The Delegation also supports the Ugandan government’s commitment to improving peace and security in the East Africa region. The European Union Delegation to Uganda work closely with the 10 EU Member States with their own diplomatic presence in Uganda and play a supportive role as regards diplomatic and consular protection of the Union’s citizens in Uganda as well as social-economic transformation of Uganda.
European delegation work in Uganda is dedicated to Strengthening state functions relating to financial, democratic and social accountability,Bolstering the oversight and control functions of the government executive, Improving access to justice, protecting human rights and democracy, while strengthening investigative and legal institutions.
ECONOMIC AND TRADE RELATIONS; Relations between the European Union and Uganda are mainly based on aid to development and trade. The political dialogue with the Government of Uganda remains key to foster sustainable growth. EU cooperation with Uganda aims to respond to the country’s most pressing needs which include: Fostering sustainable development through sound economic policies and good governance, improving national and regional transport connections and Strengthening the agricultural sector and its potential and improving people’s livelihoods.
The EU market offers great opportunities for Ugandan entrepreneurs. Uganda has lots of trade advantages with Europe and we need to build and capitalise, focusing on value addition and standards for quality exports. The Ugandan private sector is keen on doing business with our European counterparts and this Forum presents a priceless opportunity for us to expand our markets, promote Ugandan services and products and attract investment in the country,” says PSFU Chair Mr Humphrey Nzeyi.
DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION; Relations between the EU and Uganda in terms of development cooperation have been guided by the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) National Indicative Programme (NIP) 2014-2020. EU policy is directed towards three broad policy areas: Green Partnerships, Sustainable Growth and Jobs, Democratic Governance and Social Inclusion.
In February the European Union Delegation to Uganda was nominated to be recognized as a Uganda Health Sector Transformation Champion in which it will feature in the Uganda Health Sector Transformation Champions Journal and on the Uganda Health Sector Transformation Champions Poster. EU is a great contributor to the health sector development in Uganda.
