Rwimi Hydroelectric Power Station is a Nominee for the 2019 Uganda Responsible Investment Award (URI Award) slated for 22nd November 2019 during a High Level Uganda Responsible Investment Summit and Award Ceremony. The 2019 Uganda Responsible Investment Summit and Award Ceremony is organised by Public Opinions and Office of the Minister of State for Privatisation and Investment. The award is offered to Companies and organisations which promote and uphold International Best Standards and Practices and have made tremendous contributions towards attainment of Uganda Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
RWIMI HYDRO ELECTRIC POWER PROJECT started in 2008 rising through all ranks and its now worth 3 Million USD employing over 65 Ugandans and has an annual corporate Social Responsibility Budget of 65 Million Shillings.
Rwimi Hydroelectric Power Station is an operational 5.54 megawatts (7,430 hp) hydroelectric power station in Bunyangabu District in Western Region of Uganda.
The power station is located on the Rwimi River, along the border between Kasese District and Bunyangabu District. This location lies near the town of Rwimi in Bunyangabu District, approximately 34 kilometres (21 mi), north of Kasese along the Fort Portal-Kasese-Mpondwe Road.
Rwimi Hydropower Station is a mini-hydropower plant, with capacity installation of 5.54 megawatts (7,430 hp).
The project is worth US$21.1 million in which the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries (BIO) contributed US$13 million, Norfund contributed US$4.2 million (NOK:33.4 million), and GETFit Uganda is contributed US$3.9 million through KfW .
